British Bibliophile

I would have enjoyed reading Bloomsbury Girls for its postwar British bookshop setting alone. But the references to Arthur Quiller-Couch, the inadvertent mentor of one of my favorite writers, Helene Hanff, AND mentions of the woman-owned early 20th century NYC bookstore which I learned of just this spring, were like literary easter eggs. Then, when reading the acknowledgements (yes, I’m the type to read book acknowledgements), the author referenced Rexall Drugs, which is an Ontario pharmacy, and then her brief bio, which states that she lives in Oakville—where we just visited family, and where I started reading this book, seemed like an extra bit of serendipity. Now I want to read the prior novel, The Jane Austen Society.
