Summer Romance

Joanna Lowell’s historical romance A Shore Thing was a delightful way to conclude my selection of #pridemonth reads. Set along the Cornish coast, it is a perfect mix of historical fiction and romance, with main and side character romance, and lots of representation. Given the period, there’s some not-too-abrasive lad culture, but also some insight into Sapphic salons. The bicycle culture of the late Victorian era features prominently, complete with the rivalry between the stalwart “high wheel” bicycle, and the upstart “safeties” (the design we are mostly familiar with today). As a reader AND a cyclist, I loved this mashup. It’s the perfect summer read!
