One of the first science fiction novels I read was The Chrysalids, way back in high school when one of my English teachers chose it for a class book. It’s stuck with me, and over the last year or so, I’ve collected a few of his other books. This week I read The Midwich Cuckoos, which is set in a post-war British village. Wyndham’s writing is clever, at times wry, and he builds an atmosphere of quiet dread. The book has been adapted into films (Village of the Damned) and most recently a miniseries, which I now want to watch. 📚
