My reaction to Private Rites — underwhelmed, wondering when the “horror” part was going to kick in (not til the last ten percent of the book, and even when it did, it was anticlimactic), feeling like this was a classic case of blurbs and jacket copy over promising — may be a case of ‘it’s not you, it’s me’ if reviews are any indication. But while I did think the ways in which she portrayed humanity’s reaction to the end of the world as we know it was pretty accurate, and some passages were just beautiful and/or brilliant, overall I was often confused as to which character was which, and wondering when the promised horror was going to begin. Meh.
