I enjoy reading about walking excursions, but those books are typically nonfiction. You Are Here is a novel, and a bit of a romance at that. But it’s a love story for adults, about adults, in particular two middle-aged individuals who find themselves with the opportunity for a second chance at love. It doesn’t seem that a coast-to-coast walk across northern England would be the place for that, but surprises abound. I liked the vulnerability of both main characters, and the care with which the author approaches topics like infertility. There’s humor and a gentleness to the story, a realness that isn’t just a meet cute with an HEA. I’ll be looking for more from author David Nicholls.
