Yet another book I’ve owned for double-digit years (16!) but hadn’t read. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much but that was an error in judging a book by its cover, which is deceptively simple and childlike, but Pennac writes some of the most insightful commentary on the subject of reading that I’ve encountered. What he has to say about reading, particularly the ways in which we dissuade children’s interest in reading, is as valid today as today as when he first published this book in 1992. Swipe to see some of my favorite quotes from the book, as well as his ten rights for readers.
