Lurid and Loving It

Paperbacks From Hell is a fun romp through the world of mass market horror fiction in the 70s and 80s, from the greats to the bizarre, from the famous to the obscure. What makes this book not just good but great, are the many book covers it showcases—I recognized several, and still have some in my collection (as shown) but there were many more I hadn’t heard of, and a few I added to my WTR (want to read) list. Hendrix rightly gives credit to women as some of the original horror writers, and their influence continued into the 20th century as popular authors and some of the best creators of cover art.
