The Whalebone Theatre was a bit of a mixed bag for me. “Sweeping saga” would be an apt cliché for this book, as it begins at the end of World War One and concludes at the end of World War Two, centered on Chilcombe Hall, its inhabitants and all who pass through. There were several characters whose stories were cut short, and the same for elements of the story. So the mixed reaction comes from me wanting MORE when sometimes I got less. Overall a great piece of historical fiction.
