I wish I could remember how I first learned of this historical crime thriller. I know I ordered it from the UK about a year ago, and finally read it this week. Blood & Sugar is the mystery of how one British abolitionist’s brutal murder and the horrific massacre of hundreds of enslaved Africans aboard a slaving ship are linked. Drawing upon actual events for her fictional story, the author doesn’t shy away from the brutalities and horrors of the slave trade, nor the culpability of British citizens. Unputdownable.
