I borrowed this book from my library, and enjoyed it so much I promptly purchased my own copy. As a GenX Canadian, I was an adult before I realized that the Queen Mum was once Queen herself! I didn’t know too much about her, beyond being familiar with her smiling, slightly stooped figure at royal events, but I always had a soft spot for her. This biography strikes the right mix between informative and entertaining, written in an obviously admiring tone while still recognizing her faults. One of the things I learned is that Dubonnet was both her and Queen Elizabeth II’s favorite drink (sometimes mixed with gin) and so of course I had to find a bottle to try it myself!
