Literary love affair

I’ve had The Yellow-Lighted Bookshop on my wishlist since first reading Lesley’s review many months ago. Being the sucker for cover art that I am, I was in love with the photo for this one. Since first seeing it on her blog, I’ve noticed several other book bloggers have read it. I’m glad to say I now join them. This compact gem is the literary memoir of Lewis Buzbee, who shares his bookselling anecdotes, interspersed with passages about the history of bookselling, from ancient Egypt through the European Dark Ages, to modern-day ‘big box’ retailing.

I couldn’t help but be captivated by Buzbee’s writing, and even though I’ve never worked in a bookstore, I could relate to his love for them, the sense of belonging and silent camaraderie that one feels upon entering those literary enclaves. What booklover wouldn’t? His adoration permeates the pages, infuses each sentence, and I know I’m reading the words of a literary kindred spirit. This book is a treasure that I would recommend to any bibliophile.
