I once read and loved The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde, and then like many a bibliophile, went onto collect the rest of the books in the series as they were published throughout the early 2000s. My memory is a little murky on whether I read the second one, but I am sure I did not read beyond that. So I decided to revisit the alernate, bookish world of Thursday Next by (re)reading Lost in a Good Book, the second installment (I reread the first book last August). The character of Miss Havisham (yes, THAT Miss Havisham) and enough other vaguely familiar scenes leads me to think I did read it once. Regardless, it’s another Terry Pratchett-like visit to England in the 1980s, as Thursday tries to rescue her husband while not releasing her nemesis back into the world, all while learning how to book-jump under the tutelage of Miss Havisham. I don’t often cast characters when I’m reading, but if there’s ever a film made, I picture Jim Broadbent as Thursday’s father Colonel Next, and Joanna Lumley as Miss Havisham.
