This One Time, in Prague

Indians on Vacation was one of the books I picked up from my recent trip home to Canada. I’d read and enjoyed Thomas King’s collection of essays (The Truth About Stories: A Native Narrative — purchased from the same bookstore on a prior trip) and I was not disappointed in my first time reading one of his novels. This is the story of Bird and Mimi, an older couple visiting Prague with the intention of finding out more about one of Mimi’s vagabond uncles. Bird is a charming curmudgeonly sort, while Mimi is more of an unconventional free spirit. Interspersed among the humorous experiences facing any traveler are more poignant moments.
