Astray is a collection of short stories by Emma Donoghue, whose novels are a bit of a mixed bag for me. I loved Slammerkin and Haven, but not so much The Pull of the Stars or Learned by Heart (which was actually a DNF for me). Astray is divided into three thematic sections: Departures, In Transit, and Arrivals and Aftermaths, with each story based on a factual event or person (which Donoghue helpfully provides details of in a sort of afterword for each story). Like her novels, I enjoyed some stories more than others, but there were only a couple that were ones I didn’t like much at all.
