The Sentence was one of my favorite reads of 2023 and so I was eager to read another of Louise Erdrich’s books and had a copy of The Round House on my shelf. Another great read, I appreciated how she wrote about some of the crimes committed against Indigenous women without being exploitative. It’s also a coming-of-age story for a young boy in the late 80s. There’s both tragedy and humor, a balancing act that Erdrich does well. I’m looking forward to reading more of her books. (And side note: one of my personal reading challenges this year is to read one backlist book a month, beginning with 2012 and making my way forward, choosing books from my personal collection, so The Round House is that book for January.)
