I thought I’d read Carmilla decades ago, but if I did, I’d completely forgotten all but the basic plot, as this reading experience was entirely new. (I do recall Meg Tilly playing the seductive Sapphic vampire in a movie back in 1989.) This is a gorgeous edition, starting with the cover art and includes some beautifully detailed illustrations by Robert Kraiza. The editor, writer Carmen Maria Machado, provides a very meta introduction and entertaining footnotes.
