I almost didn’t read this book, because I saw so many reviews comparing it to Stephen King’s IT, which I’ve read, and I thought, do I really need to read another long-ass story about a group of boys in a 1960s summer battling some great evil? But I figured I’d give it a go and was quickly hooked, reading every spare minute (and then some) over the last few days. Although the stars of the story are the boys, my heart was won by Cordelia “Cordie” Cooke, who I kept picturing (and hearing) as Tilly from Big City Greens. This is a super creepy, Lovecraftian horror tale that does deserve comparisons to IT, but without some of the latter’s more existential themes. I’m glad I didn’t skip this one!
