Victorian vignette

I had ordered a graphic novel called The Professor’s Daughter by Joann Sfar and Emmanuel Guibert for the library based on reviews I’d read, so I finally got around to checking it out myself. It’s a very short story, and in fact, seems to pick up in mid-conversation, so that I even went and checked online to make sure that our copy didn’t have any pages missing from the beginning. But no, it begins with a Victorian woman and an ancient mummy stepping out for tea, and proceeds along at a fast clip with murder, courtroom antics, kidnappings, and true love. I tried to take this one slow, taking time to enjoy the drawings, but I still finished it in an afternoon, and so it was an enjoyable, if fleeting, diversion.
